The storage of air pumps in normal temperature environments should take into account equipment protection, functional maintenance and safety risk avoidance. The service life of the equipment should be extended through environmental control, physical protection, regular maintenance and safety isolation measures. The following are the specific requirements and implementation points:
Temperature and humidity range
Temperature: The storage environment temperature should be stably maintained within the range of 5℃ to 35℃. Extreme high temperatures (such as ≥40℃) can accelerate the oxidation of the lubricating oil, or low temperatures (≤0℃) can cause the grease to solidify and the seals to harden.
Humidity: The relative humidity should be ≤65%. The humidity can be controlled by installing an industrial dehumidifier or placing desiccants (such as silica gel particles) to prevent the motor windings from getting damp and the insulation from deteriorating.
Ventilation requirements: Ensure good air circulation in the storage area to prevent local heat accumulation or the gathering of corrosive gases (such as acid mists).
Dust prevention and cleaning
Cover the entire air pump with a dust cover (PVC coated Oxford cloth material is recommended), with a focus on blocking the air intake, heat dissipation holes and other areas prone to dust accumulation.
Lay moisture-proof pads (such as EPDM rubber pads) on the ground to reduce the impact of ground moisture seepage on the equipment.
Regularly clean the storage area to prevent metal particles (such as iron filings) mixed in the dust from entering the interior of the air pump with the airflow.
Anti-corrosion treatment
Metal parts: Spray anti-rust primer + topcoat (such as epoxy zinc-rich paint) on exposed metal parts such as the air pump casing and bolts, with a coating thickness of ≥80μm.
Pipe joints: Seal the intake/exhaust ports with plastic blind plates or rubber sealing plugs to prevent insects or foreign objects from entering the pipes.
Electrical components: Spray three-proof paint (such as acrylic type) on the terminal blocks, relays and other parts inside the control cabinet to enhance the moisture-proof and salt spray resistance.
Support and fixation
The air pump should be placed on a horizontal load-bearing platform (with a load-bearing capacity of ≥ 1.5 times the self-weight of the equipment) to prevent the equipment from deforming due to ground settlement.
When stored for a long time, use nylon cable ties or steel straps to fix the connection between the motor and the pump body to prevent alignment deviation caused by transportation vibration.
Pressure vessels such as gas storage tanks should be placed separately, with rubber shock-absorbing pads installed at the bottom, and the residual gas in the tank should be drained.
Monthly maintenance project
Visual inspection: Confirm that the dust cover is undamaged and the anti-rust coating is not peeling off. If rust is found, sand it with sandpaper to St3 grade and then repaint.
Functional test: Manually rotate the air pump coupling 3 to 5 times to check if the rotational resistance is uniform (normal resistance ≤2N·m).
Electrical inspection: Use a megohmmeter to measure the insulation resistance of the motor. The insulation to ground should be ≥1MΩ (500V range).
Quarterly maintenance project
Lubrication system: Replenish or replace the lubricating grease for the gearbox/bearings (NLGI No. 2 lithium-based grease is recommended), with the addition amount reaching 1/2 to 2/3 of the oil level sight glass.
Seal inspection: Replace aged O-rings and lip seals, with a focus on checking the sealing performance at the shaft extension part (leakage ≤0.5mL/h).
Pressure test: Conduct a hydrostatic test on the gas storage tank (1.5 times the working pressure, maintained for 30 minutes without leakage).
Fire prevention and explosion prevention
Flammable materials (such as paint and solvents) are prohibited from being stored within 3 meters of the storage area. Two ABC class dry powder fire extinguishers should be provided.
A thermal overload relay (setting value =1.1 times the rated current) is installed in the junction box of the air pump motor to prevent electrical fires caused by overload.
Identification and Isolation
Post warning signs such as "Do Not Power on" and "Regular Maintenance" on the surface of the equipment, and use isolation belts to demarcate dedicated storage areas.
Equipped with an emergency kit (including a multimeter, torque wrench, sealant, etc.) to ensure a rapid response in case of a fault.
Record Management
Establish a "Air Pump Preservation and Inspection Ledger", recording the maintenance date, inspection items, abnormal situations and handling measures.
Air pumps with a storage period exceeding six months need to undergo performance tests again (such as exhaust volume and pressure stability), and can only be put into use after passing the tests.
High-humidity areas (such as coastal areas)
Increase the operating time of the dehumidifier, maintain the environmental humidity at no more than 50%, and install a heating and dehumidification module on the air pump electrical cabinet.
Every month, apply 10% of the rated voltage of direct current (≤50V) to the motor windings for dehumidification treatment for 2 hours.
Dusty environments (such as around mines)
Install a primary air filter (with a filtration efficiency of ≥G3 grade) outside the dust cover and clean the accumulated dust on the filter screen regularly.
Shorten the monthly maintenance cycle to once every 15 days, with a focus on checking the pressure difference of the intake filter (it needs to be replaced when ≤0.02MPa).
Through the above measures, it can be ensured that the performance attenuation rate of the air pump during storage at normal temperature is ≤5% per year, and the success rate of the first start-up when it is reactivated is ≥98%. If the storage period exceeds 12 months, it is recommended to entrust a professional institution to conduct a comprehensive inspection and performance certification.
